The history of the company began in 1831 when count Karel Anselm of Thurn-Taxis founded a sugar factory for processing sugar beet in the then unused castle in Dobrovice near Mladá Boleslav. The name of the founder of the sugar factory and the place of its foundation also gave birth to the brand under which sugar (and gradually not only that) is still produced in Dobrovice (and gradually not only there): TTD – Thurn-Taxis Dobrovice.
The sugar factory was in the possession of the Thurn-Taxis family for 92 years, then changed hands several times when it was owned by both private proprietors and the state from which the Dobrovice sugar factory was acquired in 1992 by the French company Union SDA, today's Tereos. The path to further development of the company was thus open.
In the period from 1993 to 1998, TTD acquired all the important sugar producers in the Czech Republic, which at one point numbered up to 21 sugar factories with various proprietary connections. This was followed by a restructuring process with the aim of centralizing management and streamlining production by increasing processing capacities in prospectively situated factories, considering the locations of the beet regions, which resulted in two sugar factories, a distillery and a packaging center.
In 2006, the company built a large-capacity distillery for the production of anhydrous alcohol, and in 2012 and 2018 bought distilleries in Kojetín and Kolín.
